On November 13-18, Matvey Kolesnik and Svetlana Kozlova of the Laboratory of Metagenome Analysis held an educational program “Analysis of Microbial Metagenomes” in St. Petersburg National Research University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics.
The program included lectures on topics such as bacterial and bacteriophage genomics, bacterial defense systems, and sequencing technologies. The lectures were interspersed with workshops where students assembled and annotated genomes, searched for defense systems and viruses in metagenomes, and investigated CRISPR-Cas systems promising as genome editors.
